Kent Stirling, who for many years was the executive director of the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, died Sept. 5 after a recurrence of cancer, according to a report in the Daily Racing Form. He was 72.
Stirling served as the executive director of the Florida HBPA from 1995 – 2015; he served as president of that organization for three years prior to that. As the Daily Racing Form reports, Stirling “played a pivotal role” representing horsemen’s interests during his tenure. He also served on several different boards of national organizations which sought changes in horse racing’s medication regulation.
Stirling also was an advocate for horsemen on medication issues, and he was a past board member for the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium.
