Gulfstream Park to Run Lasix-Free 2-Year-Old Races

At least two races will be written for Lasix-free maiden 2-year-olds, Gulfstream Park General Manager P.J. Campo told Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association President Bill White this week.  Dates and other information on the groundbreaking events will be published in the next Gulfstream Park Condition Book, due July 1, 2015.
“The incentive to run Lasix-free will be high,” White said.  “These two events will carry purses of $65,000 each—substantially more than most average maiden special weight races.”
Commonly known as Lasix or Salix, Furosemide is used mainly only in United States jurisdictions to prevent Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage in racehorses.  It is estimated that the drug is administered to 90 percent of North American horses currently competing.
