The Backstretch Summer BBQs July 12 at Palm Meadows and July 14 at Gulfstream Park, sponsored by the Florida HBPA, were a success. The BBQs were the first events to held for the backstretch since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic 16 months ago. More than 200 backstretch workers and their families were on hand each day. Pastor Tom LaPointe and his team raffled off 41 bicycles, nine microwaves and two TVs.
“We also distributed items that Gulfstream Park provided from giveaways over the last year,” said Florida HBPA Director of Special Projects Herb Oster. “We gave the children toys and games. The whole day was great!”
The Department of Health Palm Beach was also at Palm Meadows July 12 for a COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
“More than 70 shots were administered, with over 30 workers receiving their second shots,” Pastor Tom said.
