Florida Horsemen Should Be Aware Medication Anti-Stacking Rules Are In Effect!

Uniform Medication Testing, Medication Rules at Gulfstream Park
ATTENTION FLORIDA HORSEMEN:  ANTI-STACKING RULES IN EFFECT
There have been reports of positive drug tests being called recently for “Stacking” of the Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAID) drugs Flunixin (Banamine), Ketoprofen (Ketofen) and Phenylbutazone (Bute).
When more than one of these drugs is used (stacked) and detected, the thresholds are greatly reduced.

  • Banamine goes from an individual primary threshold of 20 nanograms/ml plasma to 3.0 nanograms secondary anti-stacking threshold.
  • Bute goes from a primary threshold of 2 micrograms to a secondary anti-stacking threshold of 0.3 micrograms.
  • Ketofen goes from a primary threshold of 2 nanograms to a secondary threshold of 1 nanogram.

If your horse is detected with more than one of these drugs you are at risk even if each drug is individually under the primary threshold.
You should discuss these rules with your veterinarian.
If you have any questions about these rules please contact Glen at the FHBPA (954) 457-3516
